WA HIMSS Announces the Launch of the 2025 Scholarship Year Application Period.
Candidate Profile
WA HIMSS scholarships are available to students who envision healthcare information technology playing a significant role in their current or future career.
Requirements
Applications must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Washington State.
- Be enrolled in a Washington State institute of higher education focusing on healthcare, healthcare sciences, healthcare workforce, healthcare technology, and/or healthcare public policy.
- Complete the web application.
- Provide a letter of reference from an academic instructor, academic advisor, or professional manager, or WA HIMSS Student Engagement Committee mentor.
- Be an active WA HIMSS member and demonstrate participation in at least one event during 2024-2025.
Scholarship Amounts
Three scholarships are available:
- Graduate Student Scholarship: $2,500
- Undergraduate Student Scholarship: $2,500
- Certificate Scholarship: $2,500
The amounts are subject to change as the HIMSS WA chapter continues to seek sponsorships to support our students. Updates will be provided when award recipients are notified in mid-May.
Application Period
The application period for the 2025 WA HIMSS scholarships is from April 1 – April 30. Completed applications must be submitted no later than April 30th, and award recipients will be notified in mid-May.
Application Details
Scholarships will be offered to undergraduate/graduate students and transitioning military veterans that demonstrate academic excellence and leadership in healthcare sciences, technology, business, and public policy sectors.
Further Requirements

Applicants must be enrolled as part-time or full-time students in an accredited micro pathways in health program, undergraduate (junior or senior level), master’s, or PhD program at the time of the scholarship application deadline. Applicants must plan to pursue employment in Washington State after completing a program to further the HI/HIT/HIM professional industry and community.

Applicants must have at least one full academic year remaining in their program of study as of the scholarship application deadline.

Applicants who are graduating or will graduate before the scholarship program's start date are not eligible to apply.

Candidates should be pursuing a degree relating to healthcare with focus on technology, informatics or cybersecurity. Typical degrees may include healthcare administration, public health, healthcare information management, public policy, health/clinical informatics, patient-centered technologies, computer science, information systems, and engineering.

Students must complete an application outlining their scholastic and professional achievements, leadership, communication skills, HIMSS experience, and activities which demonstrate their commitment to healthcare, information, technology, business, and public policy.

Veterans and active duty student applicants should be able to provide a copy of their military ID card or DD-214 form upon request.

Veteran and active duty student applicants may apply for more than one scholarship.

Scholarship winners have the opportunity to give back by volunteering at two (2) events the following year to promote and share their experience in the scholarship program.

Previous scholarship winners are ineligible.
